The Belmont Chapel Foundation has embarked on a project to fully restore the historic Belmont Chapel. The total cost of the restoration is expected to be approximately $2.5 million. The Foundation has launched a Capital Campaign to fully fund this expense. The Foundation was fortunate to receive a leadership grant from the Alletta Morris McBean charitable Trust to begin this work. The grant is dedicated to Phase 1, the slate roof restoration, and includes interior framing and supporting masonry repair and complete repointing and cleaning of the exterior. Phase 2 will focus on the restoration of the stained glass windows and the replastering of interior walls, rebuilding of the entrance doors and the ornamental woodwork in the chancel, and the replacement of the missing section of the tile floor. Phase 3 will include repainting of the interior walls, restoration of the pews, lighting design and implementation, installation of audio visual equipment, and additional seating for events.
The Belmont Chapel Preservation Endowment Fund is managed by the Rhode Island Foundation. It was begun in September to 2014 with an anonymous donation of $10,000 and we look forward to adding to it considerably to ensure future care of the Chapel.
